Celiac-Safe Travel: Taqueria Jalisco in San Angelo, TX

2 min reading time

Hello and happy Monday! Welcome to another Celiac-safe travel review. Today’s spotlight is on Taqueria Jalisco in San Angelo, TX. This restaurant is a little hole-in-the-wall place but don’t let the exterior scare you away! Authentic Mexican food is served here and it’s delicious!

The atmosphere is warm and home-y and the staff is friendly and prompt. There is plenty of parking and an area for outdoor seating.

First, a few answers to our standard Celiac-related questions: the tortilla chips are safe to eat as they are bought bagged from a supplier and not fried in-house in a shared fryer. As always, there are items on the menu gluten-free people can’t eat, but I was glad to find a variety of tacos and fajitas to choose from.

Tacos come individually and you may choose from several kinds of taco meats (many kinds of beef, some chicken, some fish, some vegetarian options). Sides come separately and are well-portioned. As of this date, tacos are $2.95 each and sides are between $0.75-3.75, depending on the item.

I ordered a taco with carne asada with sides of Mexican rice and charro beans. I was unsure about the refried beans as I know some Mexican restaurants put flour in their refried beans and often waitstaff are unsure of the ingredients.

There is also a full bar available to order from; be sure to do your research on what alcohol is safe to consume with Celiac. Here is an article from Celiac.com that includes Celiac-safe alcohol.

I hope my short post helps you make informed decisions in your travel. Leave a comment below with your questions and suggestions!
