Product Review: Let Them Eat Cake – Lubbock, TX

3 min reading time

Hello and happy Tuesday! Welcome to another gluten-free product review.

My husband and I spent the weekend in Lubbock, TX, and my sweet mother-in-law and I went to the Wolfforth Farmer’s Market on Saturday. Each time I have been to that farmer’s market there are a couple more vendors selling gluten-free items than the last time. This last Saturday we found 5-6 vendors and I couldn’t help myself but buy some baked goods from each one of them!

Today’s product review features Let Them Eat Cake in Lubbock, TX and their gluten-free baked goods. They also sell gluten and dairy-free products and gluten, dairy, and egg-free products at the Wolfforth Farmer’s Market.

All the baked goods are clearly labeled regarding allergens to ensure safety. I bought a box of 10 gluten, dairy, and egg-free snickerdoodles for $10. These snickerdoodle cookies were DELICIOUS, chewy, just the right amount of moisture, perfect texture, and took me back to my childhood! I remember baking snickerdoodles with my sister during the summer for many years during our childhood. These are mini cookies and about the width of a golf ball. I like to make homemade ice cream sandwiches with fresh cookies and I know these snickerdoodles would be perfect with some dairy-free cashew milk ice cream to make mini ice cream sandwiches!

Let Them Eat Cake also sells chocolate chip cookies at the Wolfforth Farmer’s Market. On their website you can order many other cookie options, including M&M, sugar, confetti, peanut butter, lemon crinkle, and cowboy cookies.

From the Let Them Eat Cake website you can order “regular” gluten foods such as cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and cookie cakes as well as gluten-free cookies. I am very sensitive to cross-contact of gluten (due to severe Celiac Disease) and didn’t have a reaction to the snickerdoodle cookies so I believe Let Them Eat Cake is careful in preventing cross-contact. I believe the Let Them Eat Cake kitchen is probably just as safe as most celiac kitchens and households where non-gluten-free people live and eat.

Here is the response I received when I inquired regarding the cross-contact procedure in the Let Them Eat Cake kitchen: “I take several precautions to limit cross contamination as much as possible. Every batch is prepared and baked separately and the kitchen/equipment is cleaned and sanitized between batches. Gloves are ALWAYS used when handling the dough and cookies, and gloves get changed anytime a new allergen (gluten, nuts, cinnamon) is present. Of course, there are no guarantees but, I do take allergens very seriously.”

Overall, I highly recommend Let Them Eat Cake’s gluten-free cookies. It’s rare to find gluten-free cookies that remind me of when I was young and of freshly made, “regular” gluten cookies.

Please stop by Let Them Eat Cake’s booth at the Wolfforth Farmer’s Market and get some cookies! I hope you found this review helpful and informative in you decision-making.
